About Us
Walnut Creek Community Church is a Christian community in the greater Des Moines area. Walnut Creek was started as a church plant in 1985 by a group of 15 Christians or so from Ames, Iowa that wanted to spread the love of God in the city of Des Moines.
Since being started, Walnut Creek has grown from a few people meeting in homes to over 1,300 people meeting in four locations across the city. This growth has taken place because at Walnut Creek, we have a passionate desire to love people practically and see their lives changed for the better.
We invite you to come experience our community and discover God’s love with us!

Our Mission
There are two guiding principles that drive our ministries and efforts. The two principles are the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. The Great Commandment is the command that Jesus taught was the most important command of all. It can be found in Mark 12:29-31. It says,
Jesus answered, "The most important is, 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' 31 The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these.”
The Great Commission was the last charge that Jesus Christ gave to His disciples before ascending to heaven. The Great Commission can be found in Matthew 28:19-20. It says,
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
We believe that one of the most important ways to obey the Great Commandment (to Love God and Love people) is obeying the Great Commission and spread the truth about salvation.
