DART SERVICE: Public Feeback Wanted

DART wants rider feedback and has scheduled six public meetings to do so.

They’ll run from April 15th to 18th and will be an opportunity for the public to learn about the 2013 service proposal. The proposal includes adding night services on two east-side Des Moines routes, expanding night service for all routes later into the evenings, and expanding hours of operation on weekends

NATIONAL HONOR: Metro Realtor One Of 30 Under 30

A metro realtor has been honored by an industry magazine this week.

Cy Phillips has been selected as a "30 Under 30" honoree by Realtor Magazine for 2013. He is one of 30 selected based on several factors including business success, community and professional leadership, and diversity in business.

Phillips will be featured in the May/June issue of magazine, “I am truly humbled to represent the state of Iowa and the Des Moines Area Association of Realtors among this talented group of young professionals and am grateful for the ongoing opportunity to help people and families in central Iowa find the perfect home within our community.”

Waukee-based Phillips earned his residential real estate license in July 2007.

DWOLLA FEATURE: CNN Profiles App

A local e-commerce company was recently featured on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360.

CNN reporter Tom Foreman profiled Dwolla, an app that delivers fast and inexpensive electronic cash transfers all over the U.S.

Dwolla was launched in Des Moines by Ben Milne in December 2009 and has rapidly grown since.

CUSTOMER CARNIVAL: Shoes Store Opens Three Outlets

Some customers in Ames, Clive and Des Moines will soon have a carnival; a Shoe Carnival.

The chain is opening stores in Grand North in Ames, Westridge Shopping Center in Clive, and Southridge in Des Moines with celebrations set for Saturday, March 16th from 9 a.m.

The first 100 customers on the day will receive a $10 reward card to use toward anything in the store.

LEADERSHIP PROGRAM: Nominations Now Open

The Community Leadership Program is Central Iowa’s premier and longest standing leadership program and is now open for nominations for the class of 2014.

Each year, approximately 50 emerging and existing leaders from the private, public, and non-profit sectors of the community are selected to participate in the a 9-month program that provides participants with hands-on engagement with current issues and community challenges.

It’s organized by The Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute with nominations from current students or alumni being accepted through March 18th.

The 2014 class runs from August 2013 through May 2014.

The Des Moines NAPA AutoCare Select Service Centers are offering the chance for customers to enter the Mother’s Day 2013 essay contest.

Until May 1st, a brief – up to 500 words - online essay that explains why their nominee deserves the car is all it takes.

You can nominate yourself, a friend, a neighbor, or anyone who deserves and would be in need of a used vehicle in great condition. The winner will be taking home their new prized-possession, a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville on May 10th.
