JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION: Community Comes Together
Iowa African-Americans celebrated the 22nd Annual Juneteenth
Evelyn Davis Park in Des Moines hosted the event to honor African-American culture and commemorate the end of slavery.
For some people, it’s about more than just one day of celebration; it’s about getting to know your neighbors.
Shirley Quinn says, “It just lets us be aware because you don’t always see what’s going on in our neighborhood you don’t always see what’s going on in our community.”
This marks the 10th year since Governor Tom Vilsack made Juneteenth an official state observance.
