BICYCLIST HIT: Morning Accident On Hubbell
News

A bicyclist was injured Friday morning after being hit by a vehicle in Des Moines.

Des Moines police say the accident happened around 6:50 a.m. at 4219 Hubbell Avenue. Twenty-two-year-old Jacob Bell was in the middle lane waiting for oncoming traffic to pass so he could turn into a lot.

Bell didn’t have any lights on the bike and the driver of a vehicle coming over a small hill did not see him because it was still dark. The vehicle struck the bicycle from behind. Bell was taken to Mercy Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, including a broken leg.

Police say he wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and is extremely lucky he wasn’t seriously injured.

No citations were issued in the accident.
