WASTEWATER BYPASS: Creek In Indianola Affected
News

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is monitoring a wastewater bypass in Indianola.

The DNR says the bypass was discovered Friday morning on the city’s east side, near N. 15th Street and E. Boston Avenue. The water was being released from a manhole.

Crews working to repair the issue found a large block of concrete was blocking the sewer line, causing the bypass. They were able to fix the problem by mid-morning.

Officials say the untreated wastewater has reached Short Creek and those using a public trail in Nature Creek Park may notice an odor from the water.

The DNR will continue to monitor the water as it travels downstream.

Short Creek flows into the Des Moines River.
