DOMESTIC DISPUTE: Man Dents Squad Car
News

Des Moines police arrested one man in a domestic dispute on the city’s east side Tuesday.

Police received a 911 call from the 3900 block of East 26th just after 1:00 p.m.

The caller said 50-year-old James Cockerham had taken a large amount of hydrocodone and had become violent. The first officer on scene felt threatened by him and waited for back-up to arrive.

That’s when Cockerham is accused of punching and denting the squad car twice.

“The two officers confronted him and he was non-compliant and was still kind of violent, hyped up.  He was sprayed with pepper spray and was taken into custody,” says Sgt. Jason Halifax.

Cockerham was taken to the hospital. He is facing charges of criminal mischief for the damage to the squad car and interference with official acts.
