PAY UP: Outstanding Fines Mean No Vehicle Renewal
News

If you have unpaid parking tickets in the city of Des Moines you’re going to find it hard to renew your vehicle’s license plate.

The city of Des Moines is working with the Polk County Treasurer’s Office and the Iowa Department of Transportation to place “stops” on Polk County license plate renewals for people who have outstanding parking tickets issued in Des Moines. The “stops” will begin May 1st.

Once the outstanding fines are paid the license plate will be eligible for renewal again. Notice about unpaid fines will be included in the license plate renewal forms that are mailed out by Polk County.

You can check to see if your license plate has any unpaid tickets here.

The city says it is owed nearly $835,000 in unpaid fines from vehicle owners registered in Polk County.
