GREEN THUMB: Students Plant Trees
News

Some metro students itching to get out of the classroom Friday had their wishes granted.

7th graders at Brody Middle School celebrated the Arbor Day holiday by planting 11 new hybrid elm trees at their school.

The trees were donated by a local company.

While students said it was fun to get outside, it was also an opportunity to learn at the same time.

“Trees are very important to the environment. We are losing mature trees all the time. It’s very important as we lose mature trees, which is a part of the cycle of life, that trees are planted as replacements,” said John Griffiths.

Once the trees mature they’ll grow up to 60-feet tall and help provide shade to help keep the school cool.
