STOLEN EMAILS: Bachmann Negotiating Settlement

Former Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann is negotiating a settlement with a former campaign aide from Johnston over a stolen email list.

Bachmann met with lawyers for Barb Heki in Des Moines on Monday according to the Minnesota Star Tribune.

Heki worked alongside Milo Republican Kent Sorenson on the Bachmann campaign in 2012. Last summer Heki filed a suit claiming Sorenson stole the email list of contacts for a Christian home school group from her personal computer.

No details of the settlement talks have been released.

SANTORUM HOSPITALIZED: Iowa Trip Cancelled

Former Pennsylvania senator, Rick Santorum has cancelled a trip to Iowa after being hospitalized over the weekend.

The 2012 Iowa Caucus winner was due to return to the state Monday to attend two metro events but according to a spokesperson, “became ill and was admitted to the hospital for a gastro-intestinal illness and dehydration.”

The Former Republican presidential candidate was due to be the keynote speaker for the spring fundraiser for the Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition in Urbandale and to also attend the John Paul II Medical Research Institute for a stem cell research event in Des Moines.

His condition was improving Sunday, “He is feeling better today but remains in the hospital,” Virginia Davis, a spokesperson for Santorum’s political action committee Patriot Voices, said. “He is expected to resume a full schedule later this week and looks forward to returning to Iowa soon.”

On Wednesday, March 27th, the Principal Financial Group Center for Global Citizenship is holding a talk by Brain Katulis.

Katulis is a Senior Fellow at American Progress, where his work focuses on U.S. national security policy in the Middle East and South Asia.

His talk is titled ‘Afghanistan Endgame: What to Expect from the Upcoming Political Transition and Regional Diplomatic Efforts.’

It will take place in the Sussman Theater, in the basement of Olmsted Center from 7:30 – 9 p.m.
 

THE INSIDERS: Huckabee Warns GOP

Iowa Republicans have been trying to figure out what to do after disappointing elections in 2012. 2008 Iowa Caucus winner Mike Huckabee warned them not to give up on their principle beliefs.

Huckabee spoke in Des Moines Saturday night to about 250 people at the Republican Party of Iowa’s “Celebrate Life” event. Huckabee urged Republicans to stay true on opposing abortion. He said, “It’s important for people to realize that the Republican Party values the dignity and worth of every human being.” Huckabee continued, “Every life has value. And so the message of pro-life is not just about abortion, it’s about celebrating every life as having great value being a gift from God with a special purpose.”
