Des Moines home owners could see an increase in their property tax bill if DART's 2013 budget is approved.
According to the Des Moines Register, commissioners for the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority approved including a 15-cent increase into the agency's budget.
The new taxes would pay for a 13-percent extension of service to member communities. The tax rate is different for each of DART's 19 communities, but the increase is the same, 15-cents per $1,000 of taxable valuation of property.
The tax is set to begin in July as part of DART's budget for next year.
The budget will be open to public review on February 28th and will then have to win final approval.
